Ich mag Stanley Turrentine, oder jedenfalls das, was ich von ihm kenne. Bar-Jazz im besten Sinne, mit starkem Soul und R&B-Einschlag. Wohlfühlmusik. Dagegen ist nichts zu sagen.
MIDNIGHT BLUE von und mit Kenny Burrell ist super, NEVER LET ME GO mit Shirley Scott ist eine gut Sax + Hammond Orgel-Platte, THAT’S WHERE IT’S AT mit Les McCannist eine sehr lebendige und entspannte Soul Jazz-Scheibe.THE SPOILER ist fast schon Pop: große Besetzung (Nonett) und u.a. einer Version von SUNNY, und in seiner Art auch sehr gut. Von den CTI-Alben kann ich SUGAR empfehlen, mit einer mitreißenden Version von Coltrane’s IMPRESSIONS. DON’T MESS WITH MR. T. hat dann den hier schon erwähnten Soft Porno-Sound und fällt vielleicht in die Kategorie guilty pleasure. Aber solche Vergnügen machen bekanntlich am meisten Spaß.
