Original Beach Boys reunite in US
The three surviving founder members of the Beach Boys have appeared in public for the first time in a decade.
Brian Wilson, Mike Love and Al Jardine accepted an award for two million sales of their greatest hits album, Sounds of Summer, in Hollywood.
The performers, who have a history of animosity and court cases, said their problems had been resolved.
Asked if they might perform in concert again, Wilson replied: „There’s a chance of that.“
The trio were joined at the ceremony by former guitarist David Marks and Bruce Johnston, from the band’s current line-up.
Love paid tribute to Wilson during the ceremony for his „incredible abilities that gave us all this amazing life“.
Court cases
It was a marked difference from November last year, when the singer sued Wilson, saying he „shamelessly misappropriated“ his songs, the Beach Boys trademark and the band’s album, Smile.
Love had previously sued Wilson, who is his cousin, in the 1990s, seeking more songwriting credit on the band’s back catalogue.
Jardine has also taken his former bandmates to court, suing them in 2001 for excluding him from concerts. Speaking at yesterday’s ceremony, he played down the problems. „There’s issues that arise, and you resolve them over time,“ he said.
Wilson paid tribute to his brothers Dennis, who drowned in 1983, and Carl, who died of cancer in 1998.
The brothers, who were the band’s remaining founder members, were posthumously awarded double-platinum discs for the greatest hits album along with their surviving bandmates.
