Die Mercury Sessions von Vinson finden sich dann zum Teil hier. Es fehlen dort aber einige tolle Stücke, u.a. der „Alimony Blues“, der sich hier findet oder die allererste Session, die man hier findet (#1-4).
Die ersten Sessions sind mit einer fast kompletten Big Band (3tp, 2tb, 2as, 2ts, bari, p, b, d + Vinson-voc/as) entstanden, dann werden die Bands kleiner, John Hunt ist an der Trompete, Lee Pope am Tenor und Greely Walton am Barisax. Piano spielt Earl Van Riper, Leonard Swain ist am Bass und Butch Ballard am Schlagzeug – sie alle waren auch schon Teil der Big Band. Die Besetzung ist ähnlich wie bei vielen 50er Sessions von Ray Charles, aber es fehlt natürlich die Gospel-Komponente.
