Mehr Info zu „Hitchhiker“:
„Hitchhiker“ goes back to at least August 1976, when it was recorded at Indigo Studios, along with „Powderfinger“, „Pocahontas“, „Ride My Llama“, „Campaigner“, „Captain Kennedy“, and „My My, Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue)“. It was one of those songs. Neil accompanied himself on acoustic guitar. I think the versions of „Pocahontas“ and „Ride My Llama“ that appeared on Rust Never Sleeps were from Indigo, but received overdubs. The released versions of „Campaigner“ and „Captain Kennedy“ are Indigo tracks as well.
That’s the madness of it. Neil plucked out one of those songs, the most personal one, and put it on the shelf. It was something from one of the most inspired eras of his career. I suppose it could be argued that a modified version of „Hitchhiker“ was, in fact, released on Trans as „Like An Inca“. However, Neil returned to the original song in his summer 1992 tour. I was lucky enough to see one of those performances. I didn’t know what it was though. I thought it was weird that Neil was singing a song I didn’t know, but then went into „Like An Inca“. This all got sorted out in the book Shakey.
