8. Joe Jackson – Sunday papers
Album: Look sharp! (1979)
Der schon sehr früh musikalisch ambitionierte Joe Jackson, der 1954 in Burton-upon-Trent geboren wurde und in Portsmouth aufwuchs, trat schon in den Anfängen seiner Karriere als „Angry Young Man“ auf, der in seinen Texten genaue Alltagsbeobachtungen verarbeitete und auch oftmals eine gehörige Portion Zynismus an den Tag legte. Auch musikalisch gab er sich zu Anfang seiner Karriere sehr bissig. Mit gehörigem Beatdrive kamen die ersten Alben daher. „Look sharp!“ stellte 1979 sein Debut-Album dar. Für die Sonntags-Gazetten seiner Heimat hatte er auch offensichtlich wenig übrig: „If you want to know about the bishop and the actress, if you want to know how to be a star, if you want to know about the stains on the mattress you can read it in the Sunday papers.“
