Fade ist es nicht, Glück gehabt. Memory Muscle ist ein schönes kleines Popalbum, das ganz ohne Song-Desaster auskommt. „Digging A Hole“, „So It Goes“, „I’m Sick“ und „Bienvenido“ stechen allerdings für mich aus dem Ganzen heraus, der Rest ist sehr gut anhörbar, bleibt aber halt auch nicht so wirklich bei mir hängen. Was zum einen an den Texten der weiteren Songs liegt und an den Melodien die wunderbar warm und sonnig daherkommen aber eben nur warm und sonnig sind. „I’m Sick“ mit seinen Bläsern erinnert mich übrigens ein wenig an The Divine Comedy, „Buckle Up, Baby Doll“ hat was dylaneskes und „Bienvenido“ erinnert mich an Lloyd Cole.
Irgendwo im Netz hat jemand was von ‚dark lyrics‘ geschrieben, da ist was dran, wobei ich sie nicht düster finde eher nachdenklich, zynisch, melancholisch:

Wenn ihr mich fragt, das Album ist ein Grower, es braucht mehrere Durchläufe bis man die Songs in ihrer wirklichen Form wahrnimmt, mit etwas mehr Wagemut wäre Memory Muscle vermutlich so gut geworden wie sein aktuelles.
