9. Sand Rubies – (I’m not your) Stepping stone

Die Sand Rubies wurden 1985 noch unter dem Namen „The Sidewinders“ gegründet. 1991 firmierten sie in „Sand Rubies“ um, nachdem es Probleme mit den Namensrechten gab. Bis 1999 lebte die Band, bevor dann Bandleader Rich Hopkins Solo-Pfade beschritt. In 2007 jedoch waren die „Sand Rubies“ mit ihrem Album „Mas cuacha“ (in Erinnerung an das erste Sidewinders-Album namens „Cuacha“) zurück. Das Album „Release the hounds“ aus 1999 beinhaltet 12 schnörkellose Cover-Versionen, die zwischen 1986 und 1991 teils live, teils im Studio eingespielt wurden. Neben Dylan („All along the watchtower“), The Beatles („I should have known better“) und Neil Young („Rockin‘ in the free world“) rückten auch unbekanntere Acts in den Focus der Band.
