Sehr positiv wurde bei den aktuellen Chicago Shows die Horn Section aufgenommen. Im Via Chicago Forum stellte deren Trompeter Max Crawford selbige vor:
Hey y’all-
Long-time listener, first time caller.
My name is Max, I play in the Total Pros© horn section. I just wanted give you some info on us.
First: it’s Total Pros, not Tonal Pros. And you have to say it like Ditka/South Side/SNL skit.
We had no intention of naming ourselves that. It was just a running inside joke that we say every time someone plays well, or shows up on time. „He’s a Total Pro“ (said in cartoony exaggerated Chicago accent).
Jeff asked us did we have a name for the section. And I jokingly said the Total Pros, and the band took it and ran with it.
Pat is the best at saying it, everytime he says it I crack up.
Here’s the players:
Me, Dave Max Crawford- Trumpet. I play in a band called Poi dog Pondering, and also Archer Prewitt’s band, and I was the touring keyboardist for the Sea and Cake for a while. I wrote the arrangements, and talked Wilco into letting me do more and more songs every day at soundcheck.
Paul Mertens- Bari sax/clarinet. He is an absolutely amazing musician. I used to play with him in Poi dog Pondering. Now his main gig, among many others, is with Brian Wilson.
Mickey Laymon- Trombone (Friday, Monday and Wednesday)- I met him while playing for the M’s, a great band from here in Chicago.
Nick Broste- Trombone (Saturday, and Tuesday)- He plays with Mucca Pazza, an awesome circus-punk marching band.
Becca- (alto sax)– A friend of Nels from Denver who happened to have her sax with her, so we roped her into playing. I’d never met her before this weekend, but she was great, and sight-read everything perfectly. The band liked us so much that they asked to come along and play Conan O’Brien and D.C.!
We are very excited. I don’t have to tell y’all that you’ve picked an absolutely fantastic band to be a fan of.
Not only are they a great band, but warm, generous, funny, smart people.
We are all honored to be involved.Cheers,
Max
