Autumn is a very busy period in Sigur Rós world with two new releases emerging on November 5 (Nov. 20 in North America) – the first of which is ‚Heima‘ – the band’s debut venture into film, alongside a new two CD set entitled ‚Hvarf-Heim‘, with both of these preceded (in the UK) by a limited 7″ vinyl release featuring a track from each of the ‚Hvarf-Heim‘ CDs.

HEIMA

In 2006 having toured the world over in support of their ‚Takk…‘ album, Sigur Rós returned home to play a series of free, unannounced concerts in Iceland. ‚Heima‘ is a unique record of that tour filmed in 16 locations across the island, taking in the biggest and smallest shows of their career.

‚Heima‘ received it’s UK Premiere this week as part of the BBC’s Electric Proms, go here to watch the band’s live set, or if you have access to the BBC’s digital TV service, you can see highlights of the performance via your red button (both of which will only be available for the next few days).

As part of a ‚whistle-stop world tour‘ of film festivals to promote the film’s release, the band are currently heading off to Australia, but return to London on November 5 for a second screening / acoustic performance, this time at the BFI Southbank followed by a series of regional screenings as listed below.

The same day sees the UK release of ‚Heima‘ on DVD as a two disc set, with disc one featuring the 97 minute tour documentary / film, plus a bonus ‚Producer’s Commentary‘ by band manager John Best, whilst disc two includes almost two hours of full length live performances (with different edits to those used in the film) and further extras.

The special edition of ‚Heima‘ includes a 116-page photo book in deluxe packaging. For more detailed information including production notes and a full tracklisting for disc two, visit the official film homepage at www.heima.co.uk or sigur-ros.co.uk where you can also see full details of all the screenings / events across the globe.

HVARF-HEIM

‚Hvarf-Heim‘, the companion record, has two titles because it is in effect two separate, but complementary, entities, with two front covers (see below) and a limited run of two discs. Open it one way and it’s ‚Hvarf‘ („disappeared“ or „haven“), a five track electric studio record comprising mainly unreleased rarities from Sigur Rós’s back-pages, none of which is on ‚Heima‘. Open it the other way and it’s ‚Heim‘ („home“), a six track live acoustic record, comprising delicate new unplugged versions of some of Sigur Rós’s best moments, which have never been performed before.

HLJÓMALIND / STARÁLFUR

This limited taster for the ‚Hvarf-Heim‘ album is available to download now and is released in the UK next Monday on limited, heavyweight 7″ vinyl – see the sleeve artwork below.
