Wikipedia.org hat jedenfalls kein Problem mit der Bezeichnung „Maxi-Single“, in dem Beitrag zu 12-inch-single ist der letzte Absatz allerdings so ausgelegt, dass sich dies auf CD-Singles beziehe, was Unsinn ist. Trotzdem ist der Beitrag nicht uninteressant, wie fast alle Quellen zum Thema wird angeführt, dass die größeren 30-cm-Singles bessere Klangdynamik, besonders im Bass-Bereich, ermöglichten.
Und als erste kommerzielle Maxi (ja ich antworte auf den Threadtitel! 
) wird auch erwähnt:
