Was heißt hier „nur“? der Song ist eben die große Ausnahme, sonst sind speziell für Retrospektiven aufgenommene Songs ja fast immer Ausschussware, aber hier wars eben ein absoluter Topsong. Der Song kommt ja schließlich von den großartigen „Wildflowers“-Sessions

It was Rubin who suggested that Petty flesh out the song which had been kicking around but to which didn’t yet have a chorus. The songwriter reports in his liner notes to the box set Playback that the lyrics to the verse were no problem — in fact, they were achieved in a quick stream-of-consciousness session. But the chorus was still a bugger until he emerged victorious with „last dance for Mary Jane.“ „I was singing ‚Indiana Girl‘ or something really bogus,“ he says.
