For the past 3 years Chilly Gonzales & Jarvis Cocker have been working on a cycle of songs. These songs concern Room 29 of the Château Marmont hôtel in Hollywood. Along with all the other amenities you might expect to find in a modern hôtel, this room contains one rather unusual item : a baby-grand piano. This piano is the main character in our musical entertainment. This piano has borne witness to countless real & imaginary dramas since the hôtel opened its doors in 1927. Now, through the music of Chilly Gonzales & the words of Jarvis Cocker, it is ready to tell us its story for the first time. „If you must get in trouble, do it at the Chateau Marmont,“ said Harry Cohn, founder of Columbia Pictures, back in 1939. Many (such as Jean Harlow, Howard Hughes & Marilyn Monroe) have taken him at his word since then & now those escapades of the famous ,& the not-so-famous, are about to be conjured up on the stage of Kampnagel this January.
What can you expect ? At the very least, a suite of new songs by thèse 2 unique musicians, aided & abetted by the peerless Kaiser Quartet. Add to that visuals & projections conceived by Auge Altona – & you have a pretty potent cocktail (available on our room-service menu). This world-exclusive performance will be presented at Kampnagel after an intensive week of rehearsals, workshops & improvisations involving all the participants. These will be the only performances of this work in 2016.
