Das englische „Word“ widmet der Besprechung von „Time On Earth“ zwar eine komplette Seite, der Rezensent ist aber keineswegs begeistert. Sein Fazit: langweilig.
Ausschnitt aus der Kritik:
Indeed, the band is rather showing its age on an album marked by a melancholy maturity, particularly in the later stages, where the hushed thrumming of strings surrounds a string of sombre, reflective ballads. It’s left to a few guest co-writers to inject a little life into proceedings, with Johnny Marr’s jangling arpeggios bringing a much-needed burst of up-tempo energy to Even A Child, and The Dixie Chicks co-authoring the most impressive track, Silent House. A song about separation — either by senility or simply falling out of love — it’s given a much grungier treatment than that accorded by the Chicks on last year’s Taking The Long Way, with lots of distorted fuzz-guitar illuminated by what sounds like mandolin highlights as it builds to a serpentine, almost raga-rock conclusion. „I’ll try to connect all the pieces you left“, sings Finn, „I will carry it on and let you forget“. A sentiment which could, I suppose, stand for the album as a whole.
