Mit dem Sterne-zählen mag das hier auch nicht ganz aufgehen, v.a. für die Riverside Box, aber als ganzes dokumentiert die eine unglaublich tolle Sammlung von Aufnahmen, da wäre alles unter fünf Sternen nicht genug, selbst wenn z.B. die ersten beiden Alben (Monk nimmt Ellington und Standards auf – was für ne dämliche Marketing Idee? Den Leuten den schrulligen Herrn als gar nicht so verschroben andrehen?) und die Live-Sessions mit Gordon/Land nicht wirklich geglückt sind… und die beiden Live-Alben zum Schluss (In Italy, In France) wurden ja v.a. gemacht, damit Monk seine vertraglichen Verpflichtungen Riverside gegenüber erfüllt hatte.
Zum Five Spot Set von Blue Note: da sollte man unbedingt die Version in der 4CD Box haben, bei der einzelnen CD lief irgendwas gröber schief (ich glaub die Bänder liefen beim Überspielen auf einer falschen Geschwindigkeit… das „Kind of Blue“-Syndrom, sozusagen, he he he)
