„Donuts“ wird wohl nicht die letzte posthume Veröffentlichung von Jay Dee in diesem Jahr bleiben:

PitchforkExclusive: J Dilla’s The Shining Due in July

Jonah Flicker reports:
The untimely February 10 passing of James Yancey (aka Jay Dee, J Dilla), one of hip-hop’s most creative and unique producers, left an enormous hole in the world of rap music. But Dilla’s legacy won’t be limited to music released during his lifetime, as BBE Records has announced a July 11 release date for Dilla’s third solo album, The Shining.
This isn’t some last-minute effort cobbled together to capitalize on an artist’s death (here’s looking at you, Diddy). Dilla had completed most of The Shining before he passed away, and his mother, Maureen Yancey, put Dilla’s friend and frequent collaborator Karriem Riggins in charge of the final touches.
The Shining features appearances by Busta Rhymes, Common, Pharaoh Monche, Madlib, Medaphor aka MED, and Guilty Simpson. A DVD celebrating Dilla’s life and work, produced by Okayplayer Films‘ Brian Atkins, will accompany the CD.
„This album is inspired by and represents love,“ Riggins said of The Shining. „All the artists that contributed to this project Dilla considered family and when the world hears it, they will see that the love bleeds thru the music.“
Another Dilla album, Jay Love Japan is slated for release this year on Operation Unknown. Before his death, he also completed tracks for artists including Madlib, Busta, Ghostface, A.G., the Visionaries, Truth Hurts, Phat Kat, MF Doom, Skillz, and Frank N Dank, ensuring that his art will continue to influence and inspire hip-hop heads for years to come. Donations on behalf of Jay Dee’s mother can be made to Mrs. Maureen Yancey, and sent to 132 N. Sycamore Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90036, or by bank wire to Wells Fargo Bank of Los Angeles, CA, Routing Number: 122000247, Account Number: 6043250676, 1-800-869-3557.
