Q – Why was it you who did the lyrics to the English albums of Herbert Groenemeyer. Are you still in contact, how many were sold, did you at least get some money from the project ? – Klaus Bergmaier.
Andy Partridge: – Nick Davis was producing a Herbert album and there’s the connection. He called me to say Herr Herbert needed English lyrics to the album ‘Chaos’ would I be interested. I’d never done any making translations happen before, so I said yes. Also meeting Herbert was a pleasure.
He gave me rough ideas what each song was about and I worked from the German, twisting by brain inside out to make his seven beat words fall into more eight beat English. He was very happy with the end result. Sadly, I have no idea how many were sold, and sadly I haven’t received any royalties or any sales statements. sigh. A.P
