A pair of releases by Green On Red — a notable member of Los Angeles‘ early-1980s Paisley Underground scene — will be married and issued on a single disc next month by Restless/Rykodisc. Due Jan. 19, the set will pair the band’s self-titled 1982 album and the group’s pinnacle, 1985’s „Gas Food Lodging,“ both originally released by former Dream Syndicate member Steve Wynn’s Down There label.
In addition to the 17 tracks that made up the two original releases, the album adds two tracks from the „Gas Food Lodging“ era: the title track and „Sixteen Ways II.“
Founded in 1979 in Tucson, Ariz., as the Serfers, the group — singer/guitarist Dan Stuart, bassist Jack Waterson, keyboardist Chris Cacavas, and drummer Alex MacNicol — changed its name to Green On Red upon relocating to Los Angeles in 1982. The band expanded to a five-piece in 1984 with the addition of Chuck Prophet on guitar, and pared down to the duo of Stuart and Prophet for a few years before hanging up the name in the early ’90s.
