Have you ever heard any rock-and-roll music… You should go downstairs when you leave here… and buy some rock-and-roll records.
Steinman soll nur gelacht haben, aber Meat Loaf hat sich wohl mächtig aufgeregt. „Fuck You, Clive“ war es, was er ihm beim Weggehen unter’m Fenster draussen noch zurief. Es war der Chef vom damaligen Epic-Ableger Cleveland der sich schliesslich bereit erklärte, BAT OUT OF HELL zu veröffentlichen. Dazu reichte ihm als Hörprobe das von Steinman und ? gesprochene Intro zu „You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth“. Todd Rundgren’s Produktion hat meiner Ansicht nach genauso viel Anteil an dieser Jahrhundertscheibe wie Steinman’s thrilling songs und Meat Loaf’s unglaublicher Gesang. Es steckt viel Rundgren-Spirit in BAT OUT OF HELL und das macht das Album so over-the-top, dass ich schreien könnte!
