Why, that’s the combined age of the songs he’s picked for No Earthly Man, an album of death ballads from down the ages of Scottish traditional music. Of course, anyone who’s familiar with Alasdair’s music (and the music of his former outfit, Appendix Out), knows that Ali’s special talent is for making everything old new again. The Alasdair Roberts sound has combined bagpipes with electric guitars and harmoniums with drum machines over the course ofr six albums. No Earthly Man benefits from the earthiest production sound yet, courtesy of bonnie Will Oldham, and featuring a cast of characters from all walks of music-dom.
