Die Alben der Frühphase dieser Band sind für mich ungenießbar. Rick Rubin war jedoch ein Glücksfall für die RHCP. Erstmals wurde die Energie der Band, zumindest hier und da, vernünftig kanalisiert. Kiedis überzeugte mich hier erstmals, insbesondere in den Balladen. Neben „By the way“ für mich ihr bestes Album, obwohl ich auch hier einigen Facetten wenig bis nichts abgewinnen kann.
