Ich leibe Hard rain auch sehr. Aber ich sehe darin keinen Protestsong, sondern halt so ein surreales Songgemälde, wie er es 2,3 Jahre später öfters malte.

Hier noch mal der O-Ton von Joan Baez (Uncut Legends #1):

The civil right movement was in full bloom and he filled our arsenal with songs. But he never was a marcher. (…) That isn't what he did. He gave us the music for the marches but he didn't go on them. (…) He once told me that he had written 'Masters of war' for the money. I didn't believe him. That was a pile of shit. Actually, I'll give you a good old english word. It was codswollop and I told him. It was piffle. Nobody could have written those songs and not meant it.“

Dass Dylan Ende der 70s/Anfang bis Mitte der 80s als die Friedensbewegung so stark war den Song wieder ins Repertoire genommen hat sagt wohl auch was aus. Only for the money? Jedenfalls sagte er 78 in Nürnberg auf dem Reichsparteitagsgelände „Great pleasure to sing it in this place!“
