PATTI SMITH WINS THE POLAR MUSIC PRIZE OF 2011
05-09-2011Every year the prestigious Swedish International music award, called the Polar Music Prize, is awarded to one contemporary musician and one classical musician for their significant achievements in music and/or musical activity.
On 30 August H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden gave the award to Patti Smith with the following statement:
„The Polar Music Prize 2011 is being awarded to American poet and musician Patti Smith. By devoting her life to art in all its forms, Patti Smith has demonstrated how much rock’n’roll there is in poetry and how much poetry there is in rock’n’roll. Patti Smith is a Rimbaud with Marshall amps. She has transformed the way an entire generation looks, thinks and dreams. With her inimitable soul of an artist, Patti Smith proves over and over again that people have the power.“
In the past a lot of other great artists won this prize including: Paul McCartney, Quincy Jones, Bruce Springsteen, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, B.B. King, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.We are proud to have such a legendary and influential artist in our roster.
