ich poste das mal hier… eine Chronologie von Grant Green Lineups ab Carryin‘ On – was ja ein bisschen der Neuanfang als Leader war, ab Februar 1969 gab es vier Sideman Sessions, und davor ein paar Jahre Karriereunterbrechung… Quellen sind diese Diskografie und diverse Zeitungsausschnitte…
Ein paar Schlüsse:
– Eine Pause von mehr als einem Jahr gab es in Green’s letzten 10 Jahren nicht mehr, die längste Lücke ist rund um 1974 (wo ich nur ein paar Gigs gefunden hab, ohne lineup)
– Die grösste Konstante ist der völlig obskure Bassist Ronnie Ware, der ab 1973 bis zum Ende dabei war (und nur auf der Oil Can Harry’s CD dokumentiert ist – die überhaupt ein wahnsinnig wichtiges Dokument ist)
– Die zweite Konstante ist Emmanuel Riggins, der mit Unterbrechungen von 1970 bis 75 dabei war…
– Insgesamt scheint es so gewesen zu sein, dass ca 1969/70 Green und Claude Bartee der Kern der Band waren, der mit wechselnden Drummern und Keyboardern/Organisten (Palmer, Creque, Riggins, Foster) arbeitete. Anfang 1971 war Bartee dann weg und kam nur im April 1972 für At the Lighthouse nochmal zurück. Club Mozambique steht irgendwie an einem Übergang. Im Jahr 1971 spielte Green dann mit der Band von Riggins mit Billy Wooten und Harold Cardwell, die auch ohne Green Aufnahmen gemacht hat. Das wenige, was wir über 1972 wissen ist das Lineup von At The Lighthouse (Bartee zurück und Greg Williams erstmals da). Ab Mitte 1973 gab es dann die Band mit Riggins und Ware und später Greg Williams, wobei Riggins und Williams irgendwann ca 1976 scheinbar weg waren, ab dann war Ware die einzige Konstante.

Downbeat Obit:
Guitarist Grant Green, whose energized single note lines fired the organ bands of Jack McDuff and Sam Lazar, as well as numerous ’60s Blue Note recordings and his own discs on that label, Muse, Verve, and Cobblestone, died January 31 of a heart attack in New York City. Green, 48 years old, had been ill since a summer bout with pneumonia, but kept gigging rather than convalesce. He last worked at the Lighthouse in Los Angeles, and had returned to New York to play the Breezin‘ Lounge (co-owned by his friend George Benson) when he collapsed in his automobile. Green broke into jazz with saxophonist Jimmy Forrest in the early ’50s. His most recent LP, Easy (Versatile), was picking up airplay at the time of his death. The Reverend John Gensel presided over a memorial service, and Green was buried in St. Louis, his birthplace. Survivors include his wife, six children and his father.
