Coming in May is a restored version of Pink Floyd’s classic film Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII, with audio remixed in stereo, 5.1 and Dolby Atmos. I’m sure everyone knows that Floyd are my favourite band, so will understand how thrilling it is for me to have been given the honour of creating the new mix. Lana Topham’s astounding restoration of the 1972 version of the film has been years in the making and looks like it could have been filmed yesterday, so I wanted to create an audio mix to match, with as much clarity as I could achieve from the multitrack tapes.
Trafalgar Releasing and Sony Music Vision will release the concert film in select cinemas and IMAX worldwide from 24th April with tickets on sale from 5 March. Then on 2nd May the film will be issued on blu-ray, while the Pompeii performances will be released on double vinyl and 2CD for the first time. The fourth side of the vinyl and the second CD contain bonus material in the form of an unedited version of A Saucerful of Secrets and an alternate take of Careful With That Axe, Eugene.
