Arpini kannte ich nicht … fand das Gesangs-Duo nur so mittelgut – etwas gleichförmig. Die Masse ist in der Tat recht heftig – ich hab mir mal die dritte Box geholt, „New York“ (die mittlere heisst „Amsterdam“), da gibt’s u.a. ein Trio mit Hébert/McPherson und ein Duo mit Amba, das fand ich dann doch verlockend (und das Trio ziemlich gut, weiter bin ich noch nicht).
Gerade nach einer Pause die CD mit Dörner und den zwei Drummern eingelegt, da ist jetzt die Abwechslung (dichter, intensiver, klanglich natürlich auch vielseitiger), gegen die ich auch etwas früher nichts einzuwenden gehabt hätte. Aber klar: Einstieg solo macht bei einem Pianisten durchaus Sinn.
Auf Gantar und die Box-Sets (es gibt ja noch zwei weitere Musiker, die so präsentiert wurden, aber die jeweils mit einer Box) wurde Pedro Costa hier im Interview angesprochen:
What about pianist Miha Gantar you just released two box sets by in the space of a year? Major labels don’t take such risks.
Miha has support to do so and I won’t be the one to tell him to slow down. I don’t like to slow down so much myself and what would be the point? Those box sets were made to be like that, a showcase of Miha’s vision, work and career. Would it be better to have a single CD instead of five? I don’t think there’s any filler in those box sets. The success of a record cannot be judged by the number of copies sold, especially these days; and records still need to be done. A record is a landmark, a very special point in musicians’ and composers’ careers. Records are more important than live music, they stand still. How many people alive today saw Charlie Parker playing? Yet there are a good number of his records that we can still listen to and be delighted. Live music is in the moment and it’s incredible but a record stays forever.
PS: Die meisten der CDs sind kurz, um die 40 Minuten, manchmal auch nur 30 (in der ersten Box die grosse Band) oder halt so 45-50 – in dieser ersten Box ist nur das Duo deutlich länger.
