Ergänzung zu meinem kurzen Beitrag über Alex McManus/The Bruces weiter oben:
Anlässlich meiner an Joyner geschickten Wunschliste zu seinem „Made To Order“-Projekt schrieb er:
Simon JoynerI’m also doing “Killer” by the Bruces, one of the best songs of the second half of the 20th century, in my opinion, but I’m biased. You’ve heard my friend Alex’s music under the Bruces alias, right? Killer was a song he put on a compilation in the 90s and it’s a live recording from Kilgore’s, the place we played once a week when we were learning to write songs and competing with each other every week to see who could write the best song, etc. The night he unveiled that one we all bowed and genuflected. It’s loosely based on the idea in the Flannery O’Connor short story „A Good Man Is Hard To Find“, of how having a killer after you makes change possible within you that wouldn’t happen otherwise. The song is a secular/humanitarian criticism of emotional inertia and unrealized connections as opposed to O’Connor’s Christian exploration of grace, however, and I would give my left foot or several fingers to have written the damn thing!
Ich kenne besagten Song leider nicht, er ist nur auf der Sing, Eunuchs!-Tape Compilation „You And What Army?“ erschienen.
