Vielleicht für die Diskussion mit thelonica interessant: ind en Liner Notes zitiert Lester Koenig aus einem Interview in „Down Beat“ mit Andre Previn (7. November 1963): „I think Hampton Hawes is a marvelous pianist … an awful lot of pianists who have been categorized in print as being influenced by Horace Silver or being Horace imitators, really come much more out of Hamp … in the overall structure of current piano players, I think he’s left a much bigger mark than people realize. A lot of the things he plays I find in an awful lot of records.“ – Und Koenig schiebt ein Zitat von Ralph Gleason nach: „Oscar Peterson is another pianist influenced by Hawes, and you can hear echoes of the Los Angeles musician in Vince Guaraldi, Junior Mance and Bobby Timmons“ (San Francisco Chronicle, 21. Januar 1964).
Leuchtet mir jedenfalls soweit ich es beurteilen kann ein – Peterson nicht so sehr, Mance kenne ich nur mittelgut, aber für ihn und alle anderen genannten kann ich das schon sehr gut nachvollziehen.
