Oh, you heard the new album? I wish you had the one I did last year for the same company, and I think you absolutely must get after United Artists, and get them to issue it over here. It came out on the Blue Note label, which is the jazz division of United Artists. On that album, I did a more traditional piano–bass–drums thing, where I played a lot of standards and some original themes. 1 thought it was a pretty good album, actually; I was rather pleased with it. Now, the one you’re referring to is my most recent one; it’s called “From The Beginning”, and that’s on the United Artists label. On this one we tried to achieve maybe a little more of a contemporary sound, using a large orchestra on some of the cuts.

I also applaud the continued or revived use of the acoustic piano. Look at someone like Keith Jarrett, for instance, who is a brilliant talent, and will have nothing to do with electronic music. I love what he does; I’m a great admirer of that kind of solo piano playing—on the Blue Note album I referred to I did a couple of piano solos. But Keith doesn’t resort to anything of an electric nature; he’s playing on the good old acoustic piano. I must say: the electric piano is a nice little toy. It’s the frosting on the cake, but it’s not the cake, is it? At least, not for me; I find that it’s not satisfying enough.
von hier… was man ueber das Album online so liest, ist sehr gemischt, jsngry of .org sprach etwa von „Bill Evans with all the Bill Evans taken out“ oder so… aber mir macht es gerade grossen Spass… man muss halt akzeptieren, dass sich hier Ebenen mischen… da ist die Kaberettperformerin, die noch einmal die Chance sucht, ein ernstes Jazzalbum aufzunehmen, eine Rhythmusgruppe, mit der das durchaus ginge (Chuck Domanico und Colin Bailey, kennt man zB von Clare Fischer), dazu ein Produktionsteam um George Butler, das vermutlich nicht 100% hilfreich ist… interessanterweise erschien das naechste Album, auch eine Butler Produktion, aber eine sehr viel teurere mit Steve Gadd, Ron Carter, Streichern etc nicht mehr bei Blue Note sondern direkt beim Mutterlabel… und dann ist da Barbara Carroll, eine der ersten Beboppianistinnen, beim Versuch die 10, 20 ausgelassenen Jahre Jazzmarkt teilweise aufzuholen… Irgendwas von diesem fruehen Bebopcharme hat sie noch, genau wie ja auch Joe Albany oder Al Haig oder Duke Jordan den nie verloren haben… Aber waehrend diese drei eigentlich auch immer nur Bebop gespielt haben, versucht das Album hier wirklich ein bisschen Bill Evans und Keith Jarrett einzubauen…und das ist spannend, auch wenn es vielleicht nicht perfekt gelingt
