Stevie Wonder recounts the coming-together of „I Wish,“ an instrumental bed initially dubbed „We’re Rolling“ (as in, the tape machine is running). „I started writing the words, and I was going about to write a cosmic song, something like that,“ Wonder recalls. „But we were sitting at a piano, just talking about love and life and people. There were friends there — ‚Remember back when we did this and we did that, dah dah dah?‘ And I said, ‚Wow, I wish that could happen again.‘ And that turned into ‚I Wish.‘
