Das erste, „Mel Tormé and the Marty Paich Dek-Tette“ (aka „Lulu’s Back in Town“) – ist und bleibt ein Lieblingsalbum … das zweite, „Sings Fred Astaire“, steht ihm eigentlich nicht nach. Aber „Lulu“ ist halt nur auf dem ersten (Tormé und Monk!). Ach ja: Herb Geller (auf Astaire) statt Bud Shank (auf Dek-Tette) ist in diesem Fall auch eine kleine Einbusse – Shank war wohl der kongenialste Solist neben Tormé. Später gibt’s noch Pepper oder Maini, aber auf „Swingin‘ on the Moon“ dann nochmal Shank.
