Arthur Blythe – Focus (2002)
Besetzung: alt-sax, marimba, tuba, drums. 8 Eigenkompositionen, 2 x Monk, 1 x Ellington, 1x C.C. Rider. Ein Stück heißt My Son Ra (mit „o“). Breites Spektrum eigentlich, und irgendwie kann ich auch nicht entscheiden, ob das traditionell oder avantgardistisch klingt. Wahrscheinlich beides. Aber der Fokus liegt auf der ungewöhnlichen Besetzung, die das alles wie aus einem Guss klingen lässt. Arthur Blythes Sax tanzt über dem Rhythmus von Marimba, Tuba und drums.
