Russ Freeman – Safe at HomeJa, definitiv ein sehr feiner Mitschnitt ….
Die Drums sind auch richtig klasse aufgenommen hier! Hast Du einen Tipp, wer das sein könnte? Shelly Manne direkt von der Tour mit Kenton zurück oder sowas würde passen (aber das tat der 1959 ja nicht mehr, Stan Levey ebensowenig).
Dachte bei Hören damals an Larance Marable …. weis aber nimmer warum ….
Ich hab gerade das hier gefunden:
I made a few inquiries and a look back at the calendar makes the Russ Freeman date, a Sunday evening. Since there were other performers at that gig both local and out-of-town, it’s very likely that the bassist and drummer were locals as most of the local pros had Sunday’s off. There were plenty of six-night a week gigs in those days. I’ve been able to eliminate two bassists….Paul Ruhland and Tony Clitheroe. A couple of good ears (aside from mine) have come up with Stan (Cuddles) Johnson on bass and Jimmy Wightman on drums. Both are gone now but at the time they were steadily employed at the Arctic Club working with pianist Chris Gage. I’m still making enquiries but getting closer to the hard facts. Keep posted.

Jedenfalls ein guter Bassist und ein hervorragender Drummer – und eine ebensolche CD, die hier gerade zu Ende geht.
