thesidewinderIch finde die Trio-Konstellation ohne Drums reizvoll, letztens auch bei 4-5-6 Trio (auch wieder mit Hal Gaylor am Bass), da eben statt Piano ein Cello.
Das ist ja das Nat Cole Trio Format … hast Du da mal etwas tiefer gegraben und auch schon mal vor dem Hard Bop geguckt? Cole, Art Tatum, dann natürlich Oscar Peterson (mit Barney Kessel/Herb Ellis und Ray Brown, Anspieltipps: die Songbooks von 1952/53 mit Kessel, „At the Stratford Shakespearean Festival“ oder „At the Concertgebouw“ mit Ellis … und 1973 dann noch „The Trio“ und „The Good Life“ mit Joe Pass und NHOP), aber auch das frühe Ahmad Jamal Trio („The Legendary Okeh & Epic Recordings“, „Chamber Music of the New Jazz“).
An Jamal musste ich übrigens schwer denken, als ich neulich zum ersten Mal die Village Vanguard-CD von Junko Onishi hörte … fand sie aber hervorragend und höre drum nach dem aktuellen Wiederhören von „New Directions“ (gefällt mir immer besser!) noch Vol. 2 an:
