Der Song hat eine interessante Geschichte. Geschrieben und 1972 unter dem Titel „Midnight Plane to Houston“ aufgenommen von dem Singer/Songwriter Jim Weatherly. Dann leicht umgeschrieben und von Cissy Houston Anfang 1973 als „Midnite Train to Georgia“ veröffentlicht.
Die bekanntere Cover-Version von Gladys Knight folgte im Sommer 1973 als Single und war dann auch auf ihrem Album „Imagination“ enthalten.
