“Mississippi” überließ Dylan vor seiner eigenen Veröffentlichung Sheryl Crow. Dieser Titel habe ihr Album „The Globe Sessions“ komplett geprägt, sagt Crow dankbar, und ihre Version wurde von der Kritik als „remarkable“ bewertet. Unterm Strich war das schon eine Art Ritterschlag, den Dylan da erteilte! Und er selbst brachte seine Interpretation dann ca. zwei Jahre später auf der „Love and Theft“.
