Back in the autumn of 2003, the Fly On The Wall 3LP & 3CD collection brought together a wealth of Paul Weller solo recordings that stretched back to 1991. The B-sides, 12” EP tracks, single remixes and ‘live’ recordings featured all had one thing in common, namely that they hadn’t been included on any of his hugely successful solo albums. Furthermore, in many instances, they’d become highly sought after as the original 7”, 10”, 12” and CD singles and promo’s that first aired them were fetching significant sums from fans and collectors.

Will Of The People follows up Fly On The Wall and takes the listener through a similar mix of rarities, this time spanning the period 2002 to 2021. Like its predecessor not only does it make for some great listening but it’s a superb way to hear all those hard to get solo tracks that haven’t been featured on an album before. This collection has been compiled by Paul Weller himself and Paul has provided artwork ideas and sketches for the design. Alongside this Paul has written track-by-track sleeve notes. The release includes additional sleeve notes from writer and broadcaster John Wilson.

Bei manchen Tracks ist mir nicht bewusst, ob ich die irgendwo schon habe oder nicht. Eigentlich dachte ich aus den letzten 20 Jahren müsste ich komplett sein, aber da muss ich echt noch mal nachschauen. Interessant wäre es zu wissen, welche Songs auf welchen VÖs waren.

Oha. Dieses Let Me In-Demo hab‘ ich übersehen. Das ist tatsächlich unveröffentlicht.

Über einen Tonträger mit den Songs von der EP hätte ich mich gefreut. Von wann ist dieses Room 309? Könnte von der Anmutung her aus der Sonik-Kicks-Zeit sein.

Für den asiatischen Markt, hatte ich nicht mehr auf dem Schirm.

Whoosh ist Wose Mama in alternativer Fassung. Gefällt mir besser, weil konsequent funkiger.

Eine sehr interessante Mischung, das alles. WHOOSH gibt es bestimmt als 12″ zum RSD 2023 oder so.

Das Moonkes Demo mit Gallagher ist klasse. So hätte ich Weller gerne wieder auf seinen eigenen Platten. Weniger Kraut und Rüben.

Das Modern Classics 2LP-Reissue ist wunderbar – abgesehen davon, dass man kaum bessere Musik auf einer Platte versammeln kann ist sie auch sehr wertig aufgemacht – Ein Traum!

Habe mir gestern Abend „Will of the people“ auf 6 LP-Seiten gegeben. Die zweite LP gefällt mir mit Abstand am besten, aber alles in allem kann das Paket keineswegs mit „Fly on the wall“ mithalten. Und da wäre m.E. viel mehr drinnen gewesen. Warum die tollen Flipsides von 2002 bis 2004 nicht verwendet wurden, ist unerklärlich. Und auch aus den Jahren danach hätte es viel stärkere Optionen gegeben als so einiges, das da jetzt verwurstet wurde. Tolle Sachen drauf, ohne Frage, aber erstens hatte ich die alle schon und zweitens entsteht für mich z.B. auf der ersten LP überhaupt kein Flow. Und dann sind da so völlig sinnlose 0:30-Tracks wo man sich echt fragt was er sich dabei wohl gedacht hat…

Meine kam heute. Sieht toll aus. Ansonsten ist das in der Tat eine etwas merkwürdige Auswahl. Könnte es an unterschiedlichen Plattenveträgen liegen, dass einiges nicht drauf ist? Unlängst wurde mir hier ja auch klar, dass das der Grund sein könnte, dass Studio 150 als einiges Album noch kein Vinyl-Reissue erfahren hat.
