Meine nächste Sendung bei Radio StoneFM am Donnerstag den 18.04.2024 um 22:00: On the Decks Vol. 16: Video Game Soundtracks #01mozzaKurioses Ranking, um es mal zurückhaltend zu formulieren. Sieht ein bisschen wie ausgewürfelt aus, die Reihenfolge.
ELO sind nicht so dein Ding, oder liege ich da falsch?
Ausgewürfelt? Was hat die Reihenfolge damit zu tun, dass die Band „nicht so mein Ding ist“? Was Du als kurios empfindest, ist für mich nur folgerichtig und ich habe mir meine Gedanken dazu gemacht. Die Zeit vom dritten bis zum sechsten Album war für mich ihre bei weitem beste Phase, wobei die vier Alben natürlich völlig unterschiedlich aufwarten. Mit den letzten beiden Alben haben sie in meinen Ohren zumindest in Teilen bessere Qualität abgeliefert, als in den gut 35 Jahren zuvor. Begeistert haben sie mich dennoch nicht. Unter dem Strich sind ELO sicherlich mehr Dein Ding als meines.

l'enfer c'est les autres...mozzaDer größte Knaller ist für mich, dass du From Out Of Nowhere nicht nur besser als Time einstufst, sondern es sogar noch vor Out Of The Blue platzierst. Sogar ELO 2 und Zoom liegen noch vor den beiden für mein Empfinden deutlich besseren Alben.
Wenn ich es einmal auf das Songmaterial reduziere und z.B. Produktion oder Instrumentierung ausblende (wobei das zu keinem anderen Ergebnis führen würde, eher im Gegenteil), dann lebt z.b. ELO 2 insbesondere von „Roll over Beethoven“ und auch von dem von mir geschätzten „In Old England Town“ (knapp außerhalb der Top 20). Auf „Zoom“ („Alright“ oder „Lonesome lullaby“) und „From out of nowhere“ („Goin‘ out on me“ oder auch „Songbird“) befindet sich ebenfalls Material für eine Top 20, wobei der große Rest dann auch maximal biederen Durchschnitt liefert. Dagegen war mir „Out of the blue“ einerseits viel zu lang und auch hochgeschätzte Tracks wie „Mr. Blue Sky“ oder „Turn to stone“ überzeugen mich nicht. Nur für „Sweet talkin‘ woman“ kann ich so etwas wie Begeisterung empfinden. Zu „Time“ hatte ich ausführlicher im Album-Thread geschrieben.
