Neu für mich sind „Afric Pepperbird“ (direkt an der Spitze des Garbarek-Rankings, wenn wir das Trio mit Haden/Gismonti ausnehmen, „Magico“ liegt vermutlich noch weiter vorn und „Belonging“ ca. gleichauf), „Ragas and Sagas“ und „Madar“. Letztere beide sind für mich – ebenso wie Zakir Hussains „Making Music“ mit Garbarek – Alben, die in der Form und Güte vermutlich nirgendwo anders möglich gewesen wären. „Madar“ ist dabei das am wenigsten attraktive (und „Making Music“ das schönste).

Etwas dazugewonnen hat „StAR“, dafür hat mich beim Wiederhören das einst sehr geliebte „Witchi-Tai-To“ etwas enttäuscht.

Das European Quartet von Jarrett wird dann im betreffenden Faden geratet – definitiv eine Band, der ich bisher zu wenig Beachtung geschenkt bzw. die Alben zu wenig oft gehört habe – ganz vorn, noch vor „Sleeper“, liegt da bei mir „Nude Ants“ (auch ****1/2, während die restlichen drei Alben **** kriegen und „Belongings“ etwas hinter „My Song“ und „Personal Mountains“ zu liegen kommt).

Von den Sideman-Alben stehen making music von Hussain, cycles mit Darling , mit Jarrett die personal mountains, nude ants und sleeper sowie Haden Gismonti mit magico(*****) ganz hoch im Kurs. Vor allem die Making Music kann ich nur jedem empfehlen…mit meiner Vorliebe für cycles von Darling steh ich wohl ziemlich alleine da, aber egal, ich liebe die Melancholie dieses Albums über alles……insgesamt hat Garbarek bei mir in der Gunst etwas eingebüßt, am besten ist er, wenn er nicht den quietschenden unverkennbaren Jan raushängen lässt, sonderen den sensiblen sanften sideman mit Gespür für das Ensemble bzw. die Musik gibt….
