Ich höre gerade … Soul!

ferryDanke für die Empfehlung, die Hörprobe hört sich gut an ! Gehen die anderen Tracks auf den CDs vom Schwerpunkt denn eher in Richtung Gospel oder Soul ?

Das Video ist etwas seltsam. Der Regalboden kracht jeden Moment, die Platten liegen durcheinander und er macht in aller Seelenruhe ein Video. Mein Plattenregal habe ich extra nochmal mit Schrauben stabilisiert

Bei SAR Records lag der Schwerpunkt wohl etwas mehr auf Gospel. Soul spielte natürlich auch eine Rolle, neben SAR gab es ja dann noch Derby Records (Johnnie Taylor, Mel Carter, Billy Preston). Die Box, die ich allerdings nicht habe, konzentriert sich aber nur auf die SAR-Aufnahmen.

Mir gefiel das Video wirklich sehr gut. Und es zeigt auch, dass ein jüngerer (?) Typ sich für Musik aus einer ganz anderen Zeit interessiert und dann noch Gospel! Zudem wollte ich auf die Gemeinsamkeiten mit Cooder aufmerksam machen. Ich mag die Haltung von Cooder (das Interview ist ja schon ziemlich lange her) sehr gerne, obwohl ich selber nicht so ticke. Mir sind ja mittlerweile Impulse durch aktuellere Sachen genauso wichtig geworden.

Das hört sich ja toll an ! Jetzt kann ich es aber kaum noch erwarten, bis das Album rauskommt.

The album opens with „I Ain’t Easy to Love,“ a raw and thrilling collaboration with John Paul White of The Civil Wars and Jason Isbell of the 400 Unit. There are country-flavored tunes such as „Go Baby Go“ and „Even the Bad Times Are Good.“ There are bouncy contemporary Blues tracks such as „My Heart is on Empty“ and the scorching „Three Minutes to a Relapse.“ There’s soulful social commentary on „Have You Seen the Children?“ and „A Better World Coming.“ It all closes on a pulsating funk note with „Where I’m At.“ It’s Candi Staton at her best and that’s just how life happens.

So frisch wie 1973

THELONICAJetzt aber! Einige Songs haben mich ziemlich gepackt, „Eye To Eye“, „In the Woods“, „Stone Angel“.
„All I Need“ ist fast ein Instrumental, es klingt sehr nach einer frühen Fania-Produktion (Joe Bataan).
Gut gemacht, aber packt mich nicht ganz so. Bei „Talk To Somebody“ hört man wieder den Einfluss von Fania. „Stone Angel“ ist ziemlich großartig.

Interessant, dass Du da einen Fania- Einfluss raushörst (Joe Bataan kenne ich allerdings nicht gut). Beim nächsten Hören werde ich da mal drauf achten. Aber jetzt werde ich erstmal abwarten, bis das Album offiziell rauskommt, dann melde ich mich nochmal.
Mein erster Eindruck war jedenfalls sehr gut, das Niveau des tollen Albums „Faithful Man“ konnte gehalten werden. Vielleicht ist das neue Album sogar besser, mal sehen.
