      Ich freue mich besonders auf die Harry Dean Stanton-Single. Und auch, wenn ich sie nicht in der RSD-Box kaufen muss, ist es gut zu wissen, dass die Official Releases von Neil Young weitergeführt werden.

      Interessiert vermutlich die Vinylisten unter den Jazzhörern hier nicht sonderlich, ich hatte es bereits in der Jazz-Ecke erwähnt:

      For Record Store Day in April, Blue Note will also reissue the label’s first two releases as limited edition 12” vinyl: Meade “Lux” Lewis “Melancholy”/”Solitude” (BN1) and Albert Ammons “Boogie Woogie Stomp”/”Boogie Woogie Blues” (BN2).

      Was ich dabei nicht ganz begreife ist, warum das 12″ sein muss … wird das mit noch mehr als 78 Touren abgespielt oder kriegt man extra breite Rillen? Oder gibt es beide Tracks auf einer Maxi und gar nicht, wie ich dachte, zwei separate Releases?

      Ich hab das ja schon, sogar auf Vinyl (in der Mosaic-Box mit den gesammelten Blue Note-Aufnahmen von Ammons/Lewis) – das ist Boogie Woogie bzw. Stride Piano. Blue Note dokumentierte ja in den ersten zehn Jahren nur traditionellen Jazz (den modernen gab’s ja auch noch gar nicht), entwickelte aber rasch eine Handschrift, da Alfred Lion den Blues so gerne mochte und die Musiker oft in not altmodischerem Stil spielen liess, als sie das im Rahmen ihrer Gigs taten. In diesen Jahren nahm er wundervolle Sessions mit Leuten wie Edmond Hall, Sidney Bechet, James P. Johnson oder Art Hodes auf, aber auch mit Swing-Musikern wie Ike Quebec (der später als A&R-Mann und Leader einiger Klassiker für das Label eine wichtige Rolle spielte … und ein Cousin oder Neffe oder so von ihm, Danny Quebec West, spielte auf der ersten modernen Blue Note Session mit Monk), Jimmy Hamilton, John Hardee … das ist ein Kapitel aus der Blue Note Geschichte, das heute kaum noch bekannt ist – es dauerte immerhin bis 1954, als Aufnahmen von George Lewis und Sidney Bechet entstanden (wobei das Lewis-Material teils eingekauft wurde, bin mir aber grad nicht sicher, ob diese letzten Sessions dazugehören, Bechet wurde jedenfalls 1954 noch in einer genuinen BN-Session aufgenommen).

      Aber die Beschreibung ist schon seltam, oder? Was erwartest Du, wenn Du den Satz liest? Ich hätte an sich zwei Tonträger erwartet, Faksimile-Ausgaben (wobei das wohl hiesse, dass ein neutrales Cover verwendet würde). Aber dann steht da 12″ und das macht dann keinen Sinn (und Faksimile eientlich auch nicht, denn das wäre ja Schellack).

      Die Singles sind wirklich schwer zu bekommen, auch die Reissues aus den frühen Achtzigern findet man kaum. Ich habe die Box heute bei meinem Händler vorbestellt, auch wenn ich nicht glaube, dass die Box sofort weg sein wird. Darauf warte ich wirklich seit Jahren.
