Thanks to the generous support of his son Patrick Wilen, we are currently digitizing over 200 tapes from the estate of French Jazzman Barney Wilen at Audiomoto studio Berlin.
Prepare yourself for an unknown Donald Byrd & Barney Wilen soundtrack, entitled “Jazz In Camera”, produced 1958 in Paris and recently found on stocked away acetate records – available early next year.
Barney recorded many tapes during his “African phase” (1969- 1971) and we will edit an alternate version of his famous “Moshi” album, consequently entitled “Moshi (Too)”.Wäre toll, wenn die Wilen-Erben nach dem kurzlebigen letzten Versuch (das Resultat war die CD „Le Jardin Aux Sentiers Qui Bifurquent“, die rasch wieder vom Markt genommen wurde) dieses Mal einen etwas längeren Atem hätten!

katharsisDas mir bis dato nicht bekannte Label Sonorama hat einige Aufnahmen von Hans Kennel und Bruno Spoerri ausgegraben und diese als CD/LP veröffentlicht.
Enthalten sind einige vom Schweizer Radiosender DRS aufgezeichnete Sessions, die zwischen 1963 und 1967 entstanden sind.[COLOR=“Sienna“]Hier findet sich mehr zu „Dusty Vibes“.

Die hatte ich bereits im Visier, während ich DUSTY VIBES übersehen haben muß.
Wobei es natürlich durchaus passieren kann, daß die unveröffentlichten Sachen nicht überwältigend sind.
Wobei ich das sowieso erst einmal nicht erwarten würde. Wenn es dann noch besser wird, kommt noch mehr Freude auf.Aber egal, wenn sich die Menge im Rahmen hält, kann man es durchaus probieren.
Versuch macht kluch.--

Nein, das ist die, die ich meinte (und glücklicherweise rechtzeitig gekauft hatte).

Idrees Sulieman, tp, with the Jazz Live TrioIt was in 1993 that TCB – The Montreux Jazz label launched its Swiss Radio Days series of albums and began releasing previously unpublished concert recordings by major jazz artists, which have been aired by Swiss Radio since 1946.
At Radio Studio Zurich there were also more than 100 live concerts with solo guest artists who were backed by the Jazz Live Trio, the house rhythm section, led by German pianist Klaus Koenig, with Switzerland’s Isla Eckinger or Peter Frei on bass. The drum chair was occupied successively by Switzerland’s Alex Bally, South Africa’s Makaya Ntshoko, Switzerland’s Pierre Favre and Switzerland’s Peter Schmidlin.
Now TCB is releasing ten more treasures from the Swiss Radio Days archive, recorded between 1966 and 1984 and featuring, among others, Gianni Basso, Guy Lafitte, Benny Bailey, Idrees Sulieman, Phil Woods, Eddie Daniels, Stuff Smith, Leo Wright, Kenny Wheeler, Alan Skidmore, Sahib Shihab, Art Farmer, Clifford Jordan, Johnny Griffin, Hal Singer, Leszek Zadlo and Ferdinand Povel.This Swiss Radio Days compilation features two American trumpet players, Idrees Sulieman and Benny Bailey, recorded in the years 1970/5 and 1982/3 at the radio studio in Zurich.

Miriam Klein, voc (rec. 1978)This CD documents 3 outstanding European musicians, namely Norwegian singer Karin Krog, Italian trumpeter Enrico Rava and Swiss singer Miriam Klein. Norwegian vocalist Karin Krog masters – beside her beautiful and wide range – a talent for expressionism. On two of the tunes of her contribution to the present live-recording are well suited to demonstrate this fact. Besides that, she is capable of delivering both a well-controlled vibrato as well as strong and melodious interpretations of the remaining two songs. Krog enjoys the reputation as one of the leading vocalists of Europe.
The collaboration between Italian trumpeter Enrico Rava and the Jazz live trio shows the perfect synthesis between traditional instruments and their recently often heard use in the form, representing the seventies very well. One remarks here also the reign of expressionism!
The four interpretations of Swiss vocalist Miriam Klein faintly remember some renditions of jazz vocalist Billie Holiday without depicting Klein as a true copy. She is well aware of the depth and expressive power of the tunes she is presenting and uses both a well-controlled vibrato as well as her beautiful alto timbre to their advantage. All four songs bear the trade mark of an excellent artist.

Keine schönen Cover zwar – aber tolle Musik ist zu hören auf dem neu lancierten Label Jazzhaus, einem Joint Venture von Arthaus und dem SWR.

Benny Goodman Orchestra feat. Anita O’Day (live at Stadthalle Freiburg, 1959)Cannonball, Goodman und Ellington sind schon mal allererste Wahl – besonders Goodman, da sieht die Band spannend aus und das Konzert ist neben Mulligan wohl das einzige, das nicht weit herum kursiert… ich hoffe besonders auf mehr Basie und Ellington (beide traten verschiedene Male in Treffpunkt Jazz-Konzerten auf, allerdings sind wohl bedeutende Teile der Bänder gelöscht/überspielt worden über die Jahre).
Was die modernen Aufnahmen betrifft… da wäre z.B. das phantastische Coltrane-Konzert von 1963. Mal schauen, was da noch so kommt… und wenn jemand erste Meldungen über die Qualität der Reissues machen kann, wäre ich auch interessiert.

Kann die CD empfehen eine heraussragende Band und Goodman spielt messerscharfe Solos! Das wurde auch in Berlin 1959 aufgenommen.
