***1/2 für die Sarah Vaughan, no way, absolutely underrated! auch die helen merrill with clifford brown scheint mir zu schlecht wegzukommen…..

@lotterlotta: Was Merrill angeht, da hast du wahrscheinlich recht. Das Album ist nur sehr knapp an den **** vorbei. Ich kenne bisher leider auch nur dieses und hoffe, dass von ihr noch ein Album finde, das mir besser gefällt.
Bei Vaughan fehlt schon deutlich mehr zu ****. Das wirkt (wie auch der Großteil der Jazzklassiker aus der Zeit) zu glatt und emotionslos auf mich, um mich wirklich zu begeistern. Billie Holiday und Nina Simone halte ich da im Vergleich auch für besser.
Ansonsten gehört mein Herz dem Vocal-Jazz der 20er und 30er (Valaida Snow, Duke Ellington, Una Mae Carlisle, Ethel Waters), habe da aber auch noch sehr sehr große Lücken.

bicho….Bei Vaughan fehlt schon deutlich mehr zu ****. Das wirkt (wie auch der Großteil der Jazzklassiker aus der Zeit) zu glatt und emotionslos auf mich, um mich wirklich zu begeistern. Billie Holiday und Nina Simone halte ich da im Vergleich auch für besser…

Für das nachfolgende werk von vaughan würd ich das mit unterschreiben aber diese aufnahmen mit Clifford Brown sind für mich absolut nicht glatt(im gegnsatz zum zwei jahre jüngeren album mit Cannonball Adderley).
Holiday wirkt auf grund ihrer brüchigeren Stimme emotionaler und spricht auch mich mehr an. Aber die Sarah Vaughan ist ein perfekt abgestimmtes Jazz-Gesangs-Album, hier passt alles zusammen, gesang, trompeten- soli und und und….

Hoffe das meine Mirrell auch bald kommt um sie besser bewerten zu können, sarah vaughan scheint aber höher im kurs zu stehen, warte ebenfalls noch auf dinah washington with clifford brown(dinah jams)….
