      Auch ich habe sie in der Liste oben vergessen, genauso, wie die Jazzwelt sie schon vor Jahrzehnten völlig vergessen hat. Zu Unrecht!

      Schön, dass er hier zumindest schon mal namentlich erwähnt wurde.
      Seine Aufnahmen mit Spyro Gyra in den Achtzigern sind glaube ich nicht so gut, aber mit dem Caribbean Jazz Project hat er wirklich brillante Sachen gespielt.
      Ich höre gerade „Here and Now- Live in Concert“. Er spielt da ganz wunderbar fliessende, lyrische Linien.
      Die Vibes sind schon ein Instrument, mit dem man tolle Musik machen kann. Das schöne ist ja auch, dass es ein perkussiv gespieltes Instrument ist.

      Die Fahrstuhlmusik von Spyro Gyra ist gar nicht mein Fall … Samuels kenne ich nicht gut, aber er hat auf jeden Fall verdient, in einer solchen Liste genannt zu werden.

      Das wenige, was ich von Spyro Gyra bisher gehört habe hat mir auch nicht so zugesagt.
      Die Musik des CJP ist in manchen Passagen auch nicht so weit vom Fahrstuhl entfernt. Obwohl, vor allem durch die Vibes eher ein Lounge- Feeling aufkommt.

      Das empfinde ich eher als entspannt- lyrisch, und nicht als trivial.

      Ich habe ihn als Sideman mit Mullligan/Baker (Carnegie Hall, CTI 1974) und dann auf einer ECM-LP von Art Lande, „Skylight“ (1981), im Trio mit Paul McCandless (den man von Oregon kennt). Beide ganz okay, aber nicht sehr gut oder so…
