Erland And The Carnival will release their second album ‚Nightingale‘ on March 7 next year.
The band released their self-titled debut album in January this year, but they have already recorded the follow-up.
Erland And The Carnival features Simon Tong, who has worked with with The Verve, Blur and The Good, The Bad & The Queen and Gorillaz. Drummer Dave Nock, who plays with Paul McCartney’s side-project The Firemen also features, along with singer Gawain Erland Cooper.
Tong described the new album as „a soundtrack to an imaginary horror film about the supernatural“. He has promised „a more direct album“ than their debut.
The supernatural elements were perhaps inspired by the location of the album’s recording sessions: the bowels of a ship moored at Embankment on the river Thames in London.
The band have just completed a US tour supporting Paul Weller.
Ein Soundtrack zu einem imaginären Horrorfilm über das Übernatürliche? Und direkter als das Debüt? Haha. Berücksichtigt man dann noch den schönen Titel Nightingale lässt das ja Großes erwarten.

Welch schöne Neujahrsüberraschung: „Map of an Englishman“, die neue Single, ist gestern (genau, am 31.12.) veröffentlicht worden. Klingt ein bisschen so, als hätten sich Blur und MGMT zusammengetan. Cool!
Auf der offiziellen E&TC-Seite steht nichts über die Single, also ist wohl davon auszugehen, dass sie (bisher?) nur im digitalen Format erhältlich ist.

Da das Album ja morgen auch hierzulande erscheint, gehört dieser Thread natürlich wieder nach oben geholt!
Hier kann man das Ganze schon mal vorhören. Mein erster Eindruck ist sehr positiv. „Nightingale“ wirkt auf Anhieb abwechslungsreicher als das Debüt, und obwohl ein paar Titel recht „poppig“ geraten sind, ist das leicht Schräge und Düstere immer noch deutlich präsent.

Schräg und düster bestimmt, ja. Das Cover Artwork hat auch eine düstere/mysteriöse Geschichte: The Enfield Poltergeist Documentary. Die Geschichte selbst soll die Platte aber nicht (direkt) beeinflusst haben. Gespenstisch klingt sie trotzdem. Wie gut, dass Noah and The Whale dieser Tage das passende Gegenstück vorlegen; Damit man noch ruhig schlafen kann.
Tickets fürs Konzert in der Prinzenbar habe ich noch nicht bekommen können.
