Du ärgerst mich nicht, pinch, Du argumentierst doch, und ich glaube sogar zu verstehen, was Dir an der Platte aufstößt. Klischees gibt es da nicht zu knapp, klar. Und Unvermögen – ja, womöglich auch das. Aber genau das „Unvermögen“ (das aber vielleicht auch bloß Naivität, Unbekümmertheit, Beherztheit ist) bricht doch die Klischees immer wieder herrlich auf. Manche Gesangsmelodien sind so geführt, wie es kein abgebrühter R&B-Songwriter jemals tun würde, sind in gewisser Weise, ja, dilettantisch – und genau das finde ich so unglaublich erfrischend. Bestes Bsp ist eben Thank God for Women (nachhörbar auf Youtube), das obendrein vom „Corporate Whitewash“ (danke, nail75) noch gänzlich unbeleckt ist.

Ich kann mir das echt nicht geben. Das hat so eine ganz ungesunde Hysterie, fast schon was manisches und sehr verzweifeltes. Lachen und scherzen um nicht durchzudrehen.
Vermutlich zähle ich wohl einfach zu jener Gattung Mensch, die in einem der Kommentare dort beschrieben wird:
„i think there is a certain kind of person who has put ayler in a box, and if he comes out of it and does something different their natural inclination is to dislike it… instead of seeing what enjoyment they could get out of it.“

Das hast Du gesagt … Nein, im Ernst, ich sehe keinen Grund, Dir diesen Vorwurf zu machen. Du störst Dich ja nicht daran, dass Ayler aus seiner Box kommt, sondern am konkreten Ergebnis. Und deine Einschätzungen sind ja begründet und nachvollziehbar, auch wenn’s mir beim Hören anders geht.

Also die Lyrics und die musikalische Umsetzung von Heart Love ist einer der Fälle, wo etwas so schlecht ist, dass es schon wieder gut ist. :lol:

Sorry, ich hatte oben gemeint, direkt auf bullschuetz‘ Frage und pinchs erste Reaktion zu antworten, war wohl in einem Zeitloch, die ganzen Posts, die auch noch vor meiner Antwort standen, wurden mir nicht angezeigt.
Wie gesagt, im Free Funk Thread könnte man interessantere Dinge besprechen, die einen weniger populären Ansatz umsetzten … bzw. die dem R&B den Funk zurückgaben, die buchstäblich auf den „corporate whitewash“, wie nail es nannte, schissen. Warum Ayler nun nicht in die Richtung gehen wollte (Thème de Yoyo, Funky Donkey, Nation Time, was auch immer), das ist eine andere Frage … die Antwort könnte durchaus mit Mary Maria zu tun haben, befürchte ich, aber so genau will ich das eigentlich auch gar nicht wissen, ich mag „New Grass“ irgendwie inzwischen ganz gerne, aber richti gut ist es gewiss nicht und in der Richtung waren viel tollere Dinge möglich (die aber auch entsprechend weniger Crossover-Appeal mit sich brachten, und daran schein Ayler ja auch gelegen zu sein … das passt ja auch, das zieht sich ja irgendwie durch, die ganze Preacher-Sache, der Bezug auf die novelty-Saxer der Swing-Ära, auf alten R&B etc).
