Laut der englischsprachigen Wikipedia soll Jon Mark unter dem Namen Jon Michael Burchell schon 1963 gemeinsam mit seinem späteren Mitmusiker Alun Davies ein Album aufgenommen haben.

(Wenn Jon Mark noch ’nen Grammy gewinnt, wird nach seiner Zusammenarbeit mit den Beatles und den Rolling Stones wahrscheinlich auch noch jene mit der „Jimi Hendrix Experience“ und den Doors zur Sprache kommen, wo er bekanntlich Zither und Trampolin gespielt hat. ;-)) – Spätestens dann wird’s wohl auch das gewünschte „Rolling Stone“-Special geben (falls sich nicht doch *martin* mit dem von ihm zu Recht geforderten „Wolle“-Special duchsetzt :lol:).

Die Downloads haben tadellos geklappt und jetzt höre ich schon Mark-Almond „Live at Jabberwocky Club Syracuse“ (1972), das für eine Radiosendung mitgeschnitten wurde, weshalb auch die Tonqualität gut ist.

ich höre gerade das „Land Of Merlin“-Album und habe für meine neugeborene Nichte eine Sicherheitskopie
gemacht. Mit eigenem Cover, denn das Original gefällt mir nicht sonderlich. Im Innencover habe ich neben den Titeln auch eine Kurzbio von Amazon eingefügt:„In the 1960s, Jon Mark was a session guitarist for such notables as The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Yardbirds, and Jeff Beck. He also produced Marianne Faithfull’s first five albums. In 1970, he founded the renowned Mark-Almond Band with reedman John Almond. They produced such hits as The City, The Ghetto, One Way Sunday, and What Am I Living For? Those familiar with the songs of the Mark-Almond Band will notice similar qualities in the music on The Standing Stones of Callanish. Jon Mark identifies those qualities as „gentle, soft, introspective, smooth, and somewhat sentimental and melancholy at times.“
Born in Cornwall, England, Jon Mark has always been drawn to Celtic music and mythology. His upbringing took place near the actual site of The Standing Stones of Callanish. He continues to compose vocal music and points out that this all-instrumental release is not meant to be new age, old age, or any age, but is a natural extension of who he is. It attests, in fact, to his creative spirit and his willingness to give life to all the music that is within him.
His other recordings for Kuckuck Schallplatten include The Standing Stones of Callanish and Alhambra, and for Black Sun Music, The Best of Mark-Almond with Johnny Almond. “
Kann ja sein, dass ich in diesem ßrett was überlesen habe, aber wo ist die Verbindung Jon Mark-Beatles? Ich bilde mir ein, in Sachen Beatles ganz ordentlich bewandert zu sein, aber von einer Sessiontätigkeit Marks ist mir nichts bekannt.

Kann ja sein, dass ich in diesem ßrett was überlesen habe, aber wo ist die Verbindung Jon Mark-Beatles? Ich bilde mir ein, in Sachen Beatles ganz ordentlich bewandert zu sein, aber von einer Sessiontätigkeit Marks ist mir nichts bekannt.
Die wird’s vermutlich gar nicht geben. Ich habe diese haltlosen Unschärfen schon weiter oben kommentiert:

Manche Fans tragen gerne dick auf, worauf manche Journalisten so spektakuläre „Informationen“ eben so gerne nachbeten. C’est la vie!
Wer kann hier freundlicherweise mitteilen wann & wo Jon Mark als Session-Musiker mit den Rolling Stones gespielt hat? Dieses Gerücht scheint wegen der Zusammenarbeit mit Faithfull doch nicht völlig haltlos. Die Zusammenarbeit müsste Mitte der 1960er Jahre erfolgt sein.

Ich hätte mich auch sehr gewundert, wenn es so gewesen wäre. Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Brian Jones .. ja natürlich, aber Jon Mark? Nö.

Bei Amazon.de ist derzeit der Großteil der Mark-Almond-Alben auf CDs um 9,99 € zu haben
(Ich habe diese CDs vor drei, vier Jahren einem Hamburger Sammler gebraucht um 50.-€ / Stück abgekauft, weil’s die begehrten Alben nirgends [günstiger] gab). :roll:--

Soeben habe ich erfahren, dass Johnny Almond schon im Herbst 2009 (von den Medien völlig unbemerkt und ungewürdigt) verstorben ist.

Aufgrund der jüngsten Grammy-Verleihung an Gotye and Kimbra wurde dieser Tage Jon Marks Frau Thelma Burchell interviewt, die berichtet hat, dass ihr Mann seit Jahren nur noch selten musiziert:
English-born Jon Mark and Thelma Burchell, who set up their own record label White Cloud in Wellington 20 years ago, won a Grammy in the world music category in 2004 for recording and producing Sacred Tibetan Chant: The Monks of Sherab Ling Monastery.
Burchell, now based in Auckland, says the initial nomination came as a complete surprise to the two. The album had been submitted by the American office of recording company Naxos, which had a distribution deal with White Cloud.
„We had no idea, right to the last minute when it was shortlisted and it was pretty much too late for us to go [to the ceremony]“ says Burchell. „Even then we thought there’s no point as [popular Cuban ensemble] Buena Vista Social Club were also listed. We thought those guys would get it. So we were absolutely amazed.“
But Burchell says the Grammy win didn’t have a big impact on their career and only „very slightly“ increased sales „for a very short while“ of the recording.
Burchell says this was more to do with the time, their circumstances and the award category. The impact may have otherwise been different.
She says she and Mark – whose career began in the 60s playing with the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Marianne Faithfull and John Mayall – at the time were winding down from recording ethnic music.
„I think perhaps if we were younger – and it is actually quite hard to develop styles of music in New Zealand anyway. Everything’s become electronic now with downloads and everything. That was happening at the same time.“
Burchell says the Grammy win had a much bigger impact on the Sherab Ling Monastery monks in Tibet whom they recorded. A monastery representative was able to attend the awards ceremony.
„For them it was a really big deal and that was lovely.“
The award was also important in other ways, she says. For her, it was recognition for Mark’s long career as a musician and producer. Mark, based in Rotorua, in recent years has had to reduce his music work due to illness.

Shel Talmy, der Produzent der Kinks-Single „See My Friends“ betont in mehreren Interviews, dass diese Kinks-Single – entgegen Ray Davies‘ Darstellung von Jon Mark inspiriert wurde:
1.) Shel Talmy: Jon Mark „was absolutely a folk singer. It was only later on that he started getting into jazz and Indian. 2.) Shel Talmy: „In fact I did try early on [to record acoustic music], with a duo called Jon and Alan, and Jon became Jon Mark of the Mark-Almond Band. [Jon] was a great innovator. He’s the first person, come to think of it, who ever told me about Bob Dylan. He said, „Watch — this guy’s going to be sensational.“ Jon was the first guy that ever brought Indian music to my attention, and in fact wrote a song that was sort of based on a drone, a folkish type song, that I recorded with him. 3.) Shel Talmy: „’See My Friends‘ was a real groundbreaker! The evolution of that came about as I was recording Jon Mark, who eventually became part of Mark-Almond. He was a very good songwriter and turned me on to Indian music – ragas and all that kind of stuff. He wrote a song that incorporated an Indian drone, which I loved! I asked him if he’d mind if I played it for Ray Davies, and he said, „Be my guest.“ I did … and Ray came back the next day with ‚See My Friends‘. There weren’t any sitars available at that time, so we re-tuned the guitars and double-tracked it to get the drone effect. It was the first record on the charts to have a sitar type sound on it.
