Stephen TrousséThe long-running press campaign on the Long Blondes’ behalf spoke to a cherished critical fantasy. If we’re determined to run with BritPop II – with the Kaiser Chiefs as Blur, and the Monkeys as Oasis – then can we at least have a new Pulp? The Blondes certainly seemed to fit the bill: rakish heirs to Sheffield’s shabby chic (…)
Within the context of Razorlight or Kasabian, „Someone To Drive You Home“ is clearly the work of lively, stylish minds.Emily MackayFor now, though, it’s more than enough to be blessed with a band that are literate and well-listened, mixing references to Peter Cook, Scott Walker and Cabaret Voltaire with lines like „What’s wrong, have you forgotten / What it’s like to have her on all fours?“ It’s a rarity these days to find a popular band interested in anything other than themselves and whatever’s under their noses. For those old enough to miss the ridiculous over-the-top glamour of Suede or the sharp-tongued girl-gang cool of Kenickie and those who value the exquisitely turned lines of the Smiths and the Auteurs, The Long Blondes offer a blessed, leopard-print haven from all things Kasabian and Fratelli. Today the library, tomorrow the world, darling.
Patrick McNallyThe Long Blondes are still poseurs and still making guitar pop that sounds like it could come apart at any second. They also still stick out among the bands that are, at least in column inches generated, their contemporaries. Most of those groups seem to be living in The Libertines’ Albion, a lie-dream utopia where The Clash took power after a bloodless coup in 1977 and where women keep their mouths shut, roll the joints, and get fucked. Strummerville. You can find The Fratellis, The Automatic, and Kasabian hanging out there.
The Long Blondes have their own Albion: a just out-of-focus imaginary provincial life that’s defined by a longing for domestic bliss and a dull hatred for those that get in the way of it. The Long Blondes have nostalgie de la boue for the better bad times — tattoos of swallows rather than of the Tasmanian Devil in a Blades top. It doesn’t stop their songs from cutting like a knife, though.

Look out kid You're gonna get hitSo, hab gestern auch endlich ’someone to drive you home‘ bekommen und schon nach dem ersten hören muss ich festhalten, dass das eine sehr gelungene Platte ist! kannte vorher nur ‚Weekend Without Makeup‘ und ‚Giddy Stratospheres‘, allerdings haben auch ‚Only Lovers Left Alive‘ und ‚Separated By Motorways‘ sowie ‚Lust In The Movies‘ schon nach einmal hören große Ohrwurmqualitäten! und von den anderen Liedern fällt auch auf Anhieb keines ab, eine sehr eingängige und kurzweilige Platte, die die 5 Blonden da hingezaubert haben! mein Kompliment! ****

Außer „Heaven Help The New Girl“. Aber im Großen und Ganzen okay.

…und ich hab noch immer nicht reingehört. Wieso nur???
--
