Hier vorab eine Kritik zu den ELP Remaster

These albums were remastered from original master tapes by Andy Pearce at Masterpiece London. I haven’t compared these to more recent remasters that are available from other markets however; I can tell you that they are much better than the aging original CD releases, which sadly, were all that were in my possession. If there are better remasters out there, I’ll leave those to the more astute audiophiles to bring to attention. But for those that want a reasonably priced, easy to acquire, update of their older ELP catalogue discs, these do the job quite nicely. They are not expanded with bonus track inclusions but do have 8-page updated booklets with a few photos and artwork added along with a short set of notes from Steve Hochman. The series (Emerson, Lake & Palmer Remasters) sets are housed in jewel cases (I think I might have rather enjoyed the quality digipak packaging like those used for the Herb Alpert Signature Series collection). These reissues will nicely replace the aging originals in your collection until someone undertakes a Definitive Edition project for each of these albums, filled with bonus tracks and memorabilia. Watch for the next batch of ELP remasters – Trilogy and Pictures at an Exhibition – to arrive shortly (6/26).

Da sind wir mal einer Meinung… mich wundert es nur, warum BSS nicht von Andy Pearce (wie bei den vorherigen remaster) remastert wurde, sondern von einem „Unbekannten“ in den USA.

Alle Euro-Remaster taugen nix… im Vgl zu den Originalen bzw. Japan Pressungen. Einzig die Victory Remaster (US) waren einigermaßen akzeptabel…

Soll bzw. muss ja auch ‚mal vorkommen

Ich unterliege wirklich dem Eindruck, in der Version von SHOUTFACTORY! Sachen gehört zu haben, die ich zuvor entweder nicht mitbekommen habe oder die auf den anderen Versionen bisher nicht in dieser Klarheit zu hören waren.

Auch wenn es aus praktischer Sicht nicht so gut ist – mir geht bei freier Ablage immer das FrontCover auf – so dennoch auch noch der Hinweis, dass das Label versucht hat, sicht hinsichtlich der Giger-Bilder an der Konfiguration und des Aufbaus der Original-LP zu orientieren.

Beste Artwork-Repro (IMO)… das K2HD Remaster (Jahrgang 2006), aber klanglich nicht ganz so gut wie das SF Remaster.

Released in 1973 and the first under their Manticore Records imprint. The band released a flexi 7“ single of new material in conjunction with the New Musical Express, the disk contained extracts of the album and a track entitled Brain Salad Surgery, recorded during left over studio time. This re-issue features 10 bonus tracks as well as 5.1 mix of the album all housed in a deluxe package with informative liner notes and a booklet crammed with rare photos and memorbillia.

Released in 1971 as a live album and now re-released as a remastered edition including both live and an unreleased verion from the Lyceum in 1970 of Mussorgsky’s classical piece Pictures at an Exhibition. The original live album was recorded at Newcastle City Hall in North East England. The opening track of the album was played on a Harrison & Harrison pipe organ which was installed in the City Hall in 1928. This remastered edition features an expanded booklet with extensive notes and interviews with the band.
