habe von einem freund das album Time of the last persecution geschenkt bekommen und bin nun auf der suche nach informationen über bill fay.
weiss jemand etwas, oder hat einen link parat ?
wilco sollen ihn kennen, mögen und songs von ihm covern.
schöne gitarre auf dem album, klingt etwas nach velvet underground (loaded).--

WerbungIch kann Dir zwar nicht mit Links weiterhelfen (die einzige Homepage www.billfay.co.uk ist aktuell nicht in Gange), sebsemilia, aber ich möchte mich doch gerne in die Fanschar zu „Time of the Last Persecution“ einreihen. Jim O’Rourke hat sich darum bemüht, dass die Platte wieder ausgegraben und neu aufgelegt wurde. Es liegt wohl am Kleinstlabel Eclectic, dass die neue remasterte Version (Orginal von 1970, auf Decca erschienen) in Zeitschriften und Mailordern nicht wirklich berücksichtigt wird.
Das Projekt Loose Fur (Jeff Tweedy, Jim O’Rourke und Glenn Kotche; damit dürfte die von Dir angesprochenen Nähe zu Wilco/Tweedy klar sein), mit ihrer einzigen Veröffentlichung „Loose Fur“ sei Dir ans Herz gelegt. In meinen Augen eine kleine Huldigung an „Time of the Last Persecution“.
Nebenbei fällt auf, dass Jim O’Rourkes Gitarrenspiel auf einem seiner letzten Alben wohl mächtig von Bill Fay inspiriert wurde. Also, als Zusatzempfehlung gibt es noch „Insignificance“.Nebenbei, schönes Cover:

Look out kid You're gonna get hit
Diese hier ist auch sehr schön und ebenfalls wiederveröffentlicht. Das ist übrigens das erste Album von Fay von 1970. „Persecution“ ist von 1971. Die beiden Alben unterscheiden sich übrigens vor allem dadurch, dass die erste Platte Orchesterarrangements (von Michael Gibbs) hat.

Bill Fay – Still Some Light CD
We are very happy to announce, at last, the December release on Coptic Cat of Bill Fay’s ‘Still Some Light’.
‘Still Some Light’ consists of 2 CDs on which are 43 songs with a total playing time of 2 hours, 3 minutes. It comes in a 6 panel full colour digifile with a 24 page booklet of extensive notes and lyrics to all the tracks, reproducing the original handwritten text by Bill Fay. The digifile also has 5 archival photos of Bill and family, and a cover painted by Bill’s brother John.
The first CD, ‘PIANO, GUITAR, BASS & DRUMS 1970–71’, consists of studio recordings sourced from archival 7 ½“ tapes and cassette from 1970 and 1971, with Ray Russell on guitar, Alan Rushton on drums and Paul Runswick on bass. The 1970 tracks are prior to the recording of ‘Time of the Last Persecution’, and contain alternative versions of songs on that album, two tracks from Bill’s first album ‘Bill Fay’ as well as previously unreleased songs. There are also previously unreleased songs from 1971. The second CD, ‘STILL SOME LIGHT’, is a home-recorded studio album from 2009.
All the artist’s profits from the release will go to Médecins sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders, and details of the payments made when the CD has gone into profit will be posted on www.durtro.com, www.jnanarecords.com and our associated websites.

Die erste LP hat für meine Ohren etwas zu viel Dekor, aber auch Substanz. Sehr schön insgesamt. ****

FAVOURITESAm 20. August erscheint Fays drittes Album Life is People. Der Vorabtrack „be at Peace w yourself“ ist schon mal wunderbar und geht sehr ans Herz. Mit an Bord ist ua Jeff Tweedy.

Das höre ich auch. Habe heute seine Debüt-LP als DERAM-Reissue bekommen und bin sehr angetan. Life is people (die ich als download schon gehört habe) und Time of the last persecution (die ich noch nicht kenne) werde ich mir auch noch holen. Sehr spannender Künstler und auch seine Texte auf Life is people finde ich nicht unangenehm religiös. Da habe ich schon mit viel unangenehmer missionarisch daher kommenden Tracks von Dylan meinen Frieden gemacht. Er scheint mir authentisch mit seiner Spiritualität und er erzählt davon, aber ich hatte nicht den Eindruck, dass er mich missionieren will.
