In einem früheren Sprachstadium der deutschen Sprache (Barockzeitalter) hatte „eitel“ die Bedeutung von „vergeblich“, wenn ich nicht irre.
Die Bedeutung „nichtig“, „leer“ etc. ist nur noch im gehobenen Sprachgebrauch üblich.--

This is what Moz has got to say about it: I chose „Mr. Vain“ because it’s a fine 90’s (euro)dance memory for me and the track hast got a catchy hook, for sure. And there’s even more to it: I remember the Pet Shop Boys on their „Discovery“-Tour in Rio, mixing „Mr. Vain“ into one of their songs played during the concert.
